Light and Dark

‘…how small a part of time they share, that are so wondrous, sweet, and fair…’

So many things have happened since my last full post- some good, some encouraging painful changes. This one is dedicated to our wonderful cat, Nicholas. He was the first of our family pets to join us, and the last one to leave us. His loss still pains my heart after 9 months.

The beauty in this tragedy escaped me at first. After so many years of love and fun with this silly, beautiful creature, we were given the option to not be present for his death. We declined, and stood lovingly beside our boy. He had become so frail in his final days, but still mustered a little purring in our last moments alone. To be present and watch his life slip away was absolutely heartwrenching; to be there and speak softly to him as he drifted away was a great blessing.

So many months later, and I still weep over him and Oliver, whom we lost the previous year.

We have a new, sweet, wonderful rescue cat named Lulu. She brings so much light to our lives already. The wonders we see everyday are so gently enhanced by this little ball of unconditional love- and we are grateful to have moved through the darkness in order to see light again.

This post is way off topic for me. I promise, there is more coming as I grow into an even more expanded sense of life as I choose to live.

Cheers!
